Why signing should happen right where you work

TL
Tara Lin · Account Executive

"The customer said yes over the phone. Now I have to email them a PDF, ask them to print it, sign it, scan it, and email it back. I won't know it's done until I go check my inbox myself."

A deal isn't really closed until it's signed — even after the customer says yes. Every extra step between "yes" and "signed" is a chance for the deal to stall. The paperwork can also get lost along the way.

💡
What you get out of it
You send the document for signature right from its record (the page for that one quote or contract). Its status updates on its own, so you never have to chase a scanned PDF over email.

From "Request Signature" to "Signed"

Open any record — a Quote is a good example. A record is just the saved page for one thing, like one specific quote. Click its "Signatures" tab, and you can send a new request and watch its status from there.

StatusWhat it means
PendingYou created the request, but the email hasn't gone out yet (or email sending isn't set up)
SentThe signing email has gone out to the person who needs to sign (the "signer")
SignedThe signer looked over the document and signed it
DeclinedThe signer chose not to sign
ExpiredNobody signed within 14 days, so the signing link stopped working
The signer doesn't need an account
The signer just clicks the link in the email. They don't need a SmartLite account of their own. If email isn't set up yet, click "Copy link" and share the signing link yourself, however you like.

The signing link expires and the status changes to Expired
The document is signed automatically
